Welcome to the final Lincoln Agritech newsletter for 2021. It’s been another year of challenges for everyone.
I’m particularly proud of the way our Lincoln Agritech team has adapted to these challenges and situations, ensuring we can continue delivering excellent research that makes a difference.
Standout achievements include Dr Yiwen Zhou winning a Young Scientist Award from the International Union of Radio Science; and new funding of $8.3m from the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment for our New Materials group to develop novel cellulose fibres for textile use.
We’ve also had excellent commercialisation successes, including:
- a $4.6m capital raising by our spin-out company CertusBio to help fund global expansion, and
- a licensing agreement with Israeli company Autonomous Pivot for a cutting-edge new water-saving technology.
We were also pleased to see the launch of Wool Source by our key client, the Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand (WRONZ), to commercialise outputs from a seven-year research programme (jointly funded by WRONZ and MBIE) we have undertaken for them.
On top of these successes we’ve set a new path of growth to 2026, aiming to substantially increase our competitiveness and deliver the world-class research, science and engineering solutions you want. To achieve this, we have hired 14 additional staff during the year, with more to come in 2022. Two new board members also joined us 2021 – Julia Chambers and Olivia Egerton.
Finally, we wish to acknowledge long-term team members who left during the year, especially Financial Manager Richard Barton and Biotechnology Manager Richard Weld. We wish them well for their retirement. We also say goodbye to two directors, John Hay and Philip O'Callaghan, and thank them for their time on the board.
Thank you for your continued support and interest during the year. We’re looking forward to the opportunities 2022 brings for our business and sector.
I hope you are able to enjoy your time with family and friends over the summer holidays. We’ll be taking a break from December 24 to January 4, but look forward to working with you to discover where the science takes us in 2022.
